Instructor Bio
I started tinkering at the piano when I was three years old. I took my first formal lesson on guitar at age seven and continued until high-school. While attending college for computer science, I studied classical and jazz with the best instructors I could find, although I consider myself self-taught in rock and blues.
I have played in many bands (including an authentic Greek band) as both a guitar player and singer in Chicago, Seattle, and Indianapolis. I also owned a small recording studio in downtown Seattle while living there during the "grunge" rock era. There I had the opportunity to work with and learn from world class players such as Jay Roberts (son of jazz guitar legend Howard Roberts), Layne Staley (ex-lead singer for Alice in Chains), Roger Fisher (original guitarist for Heart), Gary Lanz (Grammy nominated pianist), and the Bobby Medina Band.
I studied jazz for over 2 years with Jay Roberts. I also helped Jay write a music instruction book published by Carl Fisher (see links page). I also play bass guitar, keyboards, and drums.
While I occasionally taught a student here or there in the past, I have currently been teaching professionally for more than five years. Many of my current students have been with me for a significant portion of that. It's been wonderful to experience their musical progress.
